Is a crypto donation tax-deductible?

Yes. Saving Nature, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, EIN 84-2412702. The IRS treats cryptocurrency as property: if you have held it for more than a year, you can generally deduct its fair market value and owe no capital gains tax on the appreciation. If you have held it for a year or less, your deduction is generally limited to what you paid. Please check with your tax advisor about your situation.

Will I get a receipt?

Yes, if you enter your email address in the donation form. Keep the receipt with your tax records.

Do I need an appraisal for a large gift?

If you claim a deduction of more than $5,000 for a crypto gift, the IRS requires a qualified appraisal and Form 8283. Send us the form and we will sign the section for the receiving charity.
