Close to Heaven

A film by The Hummingbird Conservancy

The Hummingbird Conservancy protects over 7,000 hectares of Andean forest, which form the Mesenia-Paramillo Nature Reserve.  Within its boundaries are three of only 100 nesting pairs of the endangered Black-and-chestnut Eagle (Spizaetus issidori) in Colombia.

In this film, we watch as rangers capture rare footage of a young Eagle as it grows into adolescence.  They hope the film will raise awareness about the importance of protecting these endangered birds of prey, which soar high in the Andes Mountains, close to heaven.

Colombia could become number one in climate-caused extinctions.

Like coral reefs and glaciers, the tropical Andes are among the most vulnerable to the dual impacts of climate change and human population pressures.1 As our planet’s climate systems continue to be altered, it is very likely that some or many of the species found in cloud forests will be lost forever.
